Multicultural Profiles

iStock_000030464992SmallThese multicultural profiles aim to create a tool to provide aged care providers with

  • An awareness of the cultural and linguistically diverse needs of older persons from various backgrounds.
  • It also strives to enable the professional capability and progress of staff in the provision of culturally inclusive care; and
  • The organisation’s compliance with the Residential Care Standards and National Care Standards as they pertain to the issue of cultural and linguistic needs.

The profiles provide beneficial information about a variety of subjects and resources.

These are guides only and are not intended to replace one stereotype of  culture with another; they are only intended to provide some insight into different cultures. Nor do they reduce the importance of you establishing the individual cultural needs of each person as part of your care planning process.

In an effort to continue to provide you with updated information of these profiles and improve the contents, we encourage readers to provide feedback by contacting Quality Aging or leave a message in the comment section below.

More profiles will be added in due course. If there is a nationality that you would like as soon as possible feel free to contact us or leave a message below in the comments.

To assist you with the Languages of these Nationalities you will find Cue Cards here.

Hi Tania, The Swiss profile is up and the cue cards are also up for Switzerland and Armenia .. Yugoslavia was broken up into different countries and therefore has many different languages, we have tried to cover all the languages in the cue cards. We found a list of the languages and have posted below for your information and to hopefully make it easier for you to work out which ones you need. If there is anything you require further to this please let us know.

This is a list of the languages of the former country of Yugoslavia:
•Serbo-Croato-Slovenian, official language of the former Kingdom of Yugoslavia
•Serbo-Croatian, language of Bosnia and Hercegovina, Croatia, Montenegro and Serbia, previously Socialist Republics (SR) in Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia
•Macedonian language, language of Macedonia, previously SR Macedonia in Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia
•Slovene language, language of Slovenia, previously SR Slovenia in Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia
•Bosnian language, standard form of Serbo-Croatian used in Bosnia and Hercegovina after breakup of Yugoslavia
•Croatian language, standard form of Serbo-Croatian used in Croatia after breakup of Yugoslavia
•Montenegrin language, standard form of Serbo-Croatian used in Montenegro after breakup of Yugoslavia
•Serbian language, standard form of Serbo-Croatian used in Serbia after breakup of Yugoslavia
•Albanian language, co-official language in Autonomous Province of Kosovo in Socialist Republic of Serbia of Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia
