May 15 is the International Day of Families, proclaimed by the UN General Assembly in 1993 . The day reflects the importance the international community attaches to families. The first such day was observed on May 15, 1994.
Create a Sense of Belonging this International Day of Families. We were lucky enough to receive a cardboard cut out tree from the local supermarket when they had finished with it. We painted it and pasted photos of our residents and staff on it. With a sign above it saying “Our family tree. A Sense of Belonging”. This tree was very important to all the residents as it now made them feel they were not alone but part of another family.
We have found some instructions from Martha Stewart that will assist you in creating a wonderful tree for your facility.
